Histoire :

Pierre Clermont est né le 19 Janvier 1941 et est décédé le 2 Décembre 2020. Il est mieux connu sous son nom de ring Pat Patterson. C’était un ancien catcheur professionnel canadien. Il a longuement travaillé pour la WWE en tant que consultant créatif et fut le premier Champion WWE Intercontinental de l’histoire. Il a été intronisé au WWE Hall of Fame en 1996. Patterson est devenu la personne la plus âgée à avoir remporté un titre dans l'histoire de la WWE, après avoir décroché le championnat WWE 24/7 à l'âge de 78 ans. Il a été décrit par le journaliste Dave Meltzer comme "le bras droit de Vince McMahon" et "l'un des principaux architectes de la WWE, jouant un rôle essentiel en l'aidant à devenir un phénomène mondial".

Carrière de catcheur professionnel :

Début de carrière :

Pat Patterson a fait ses débuts à Montréal, Québec en 1958 sous le nom de ring de « Pretty Boy » Pat Patterson, un catcheur efféminé qui porte du rouge à lèvres rouge, des slips roses et est accompagné de son caniche. Patterson a souvent catché pour des promotions affiliées de la National Wrestling Alliance tout au long des années 1960,. Il a été 10 fois champion Tag-Team sur le territoire de San Francisco avec plusieurs partenaires différents. Son association la plus célèbre a été avec Ray Stevens. Les deux formant l'équipe Tag-Team « Heel », les Blond Bombers. En plus de ça, sur le territoire de San Francisco, Patterson a été 6 fois champion United-States.

Après Stevens soit redevenu « Face » à la fin des années 1960, il a eut une « Feud » avec Pat Patterson « Heel », culminant dans le « Texas Tornado Death Match » dans les années 1970 dans lequel Stevens a remporté le titre de Patterson.

En 1970 et 1971, Pat Patterson porte un masque lors de ses matchs et n’hésite pas à tricher en plaçant un objet illégal sous le masque afin d’ajouter de la puissance à ses coups de tête. En 1972, Patterson passe « Babyface », après rivalité avec Lars Anderson, qui est géré par le Dr Ken Ramey. Plus tard cette année, Patterson fait équipe avec Rocky Johnson et remporte le championnat NWA World Tag-Team Championship de San Francisco.

En 1975 et 1981, Patterson remporte le « Cow Palace Battle Royal » à San Francisco, une « Bataille Royale », organisé chaque année.

En 1979, Patterson fait ses débuts à la World Wide Wrestling Federation, travaillant comme « Heel » sous la tutelle du manager, le Grand Wizard. Premier Champion Intercontinental :

En Septembre 1979, le championnat WWF North American et le (fictif) championnat WWF South American ont été unifiés pour créer le titre WWF Intercontinental Championship. Patterson a été couronné premier champion WWF Intercontinental de la compagnie après un tournoi qui c’est soi-disant tenue à Rio de Janeiro. Bien que cette « victoire » dans le tournoi par Patterson est largement énumérés dans les titres sur le catch et les historiques, le tournoi n’a lui-même jamais réellement eut lieu. La victoire du faux « tournois » de Patterson deviendra plus tard quelque une plaisanterie interne pendant le passage à l'écran de Patterson comme l'un des « Stooges » de Vince McMahon. C’est pendant le règne de Patterson comme champion qu'il est redevenu « Face », après une tentative ratée par le Grand Wizard de « vendre » le contrat de Patterson à Captain Lou Albano pour 100 000$. Les protégés d’Albano, les Wild Samoans, se sont alors attaqués à Patterson après que ce dernier ait fait une promo insultante sur Albano.

Même s’il catch de façon ponctuelle les années qui suivront, Pat Patterson a pris sa retraite de catcheur en 1984 et est devenu commentateur, ainsi que présentateur d'un segment d'entrevue connu sous le nom du « Pat’s Brunch », où il pose poliment des questions en anglais, mais se moque furtivement de ses invités en français. Il a commencé à travailler dans les coulisses comme « Road Agent » et bras droit du promoteur de la WWF, Vince McMahon. C’est à ce moment-là qu’on le crédite d'avoir inventé et « Booké » le « Royal Rumble Match ».

Après sa retraite, Patterson a également travaillé comme arbitre à la WWF. Il est choisi comme l'arbitre sur le ring pour le « Main Event » du premier WrestleMania au Madison Square Garden, le 31 Mars, 1985. Le match Tag-Team a vu le champion WWF, Hulk Hogan et l’acteur Mr T (avec « Superfly » Jimmy Snuka) faire face à l'équipe de Rowdy Roddy Piper et « Mr. Wonderful » Paul Orndorff (avec « Cowboy » Bob Orton). Le champion de boxe Heavyweight, Muhammad Ali, est l'arbitre d'invité spécial pour le match, avec Liberace (accompagné par Les Rockettes) et le directeur Yankees de New York Billy Martin comme chronométreur d'invité spécial et annonceur du ring respectivement. Après avoir perdu le match un Piper frustré, a assommé Patterson avant de retourner au vestiaire.

En 1992, Pat Patterson a été accusé d’harcèlement sexuel par l'ancien annonceur du ring, Murray Hodgson. Il a été libéré de la société jusqu'à ce que les accusations soient abandonnées et quand ça a été le cas, il a été réembauché rapidement.

En 1997, Patterson est devenu un « Stooge » à l'écran de Vince McMahon. Lui et Gerald Brisco sont devenus des « Heels » comiques qui aident McMahon dans ses « Feuds » avec Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mankind et The Rock. Patterson et Brisco sont membres de la The Corporation puis de la « Faction » McMahon-Helmsley. A ce moment là, ils utilisent « Real American » comme musique d'entrée afin de se moquer d’Hulk Hogan qui est à la WCW. Ils parodient aussi les « poses » d’Hogan alors qu'ils rejoignent le ring.

Le 18 Mai 1998, lors de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 260 » à la Nashville Arena à Nashville, Tennessee, le champion WWF World Heavyweight, Steve Austin, affronte Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson dans un « 2-On-1 Handicap Street Fight ». Sgt. Slaughter est annoncé arbitre spécial du combat juste avant son début. Slaughter frappe Steve à la nuque avant le début du combat après que le champion lui ait fait un « Double Middle Finger ». Les Stooges s’en prennent alors à 2 contre 1 au champion au sol. Plus tard, Austin porte des coups à Patterson dans le coin puis enchaine avec un « Stunner » à Brisco et Pat coup sur coup. Stonecold repousse Slaughter qui tente un « Cobra Clutch » pour lui porter aussi un « Stunner ». Dude Love arrive pour se faire contrer par Steve qui le passe par-dessus la 3ème corde. Steve lui frappe la tête contre la barrière de sécurité. Là, un homme avec le masque d’Austin le frappe avec une chaise… C’est McMahon que Steve accule contre la barrière. Dude Love vient sauver son patron et applique un « Mandible Claw » au Rattlesnake.

Le 29 Décembre 1998, lors des enregistrements de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 293 » (diffusé le 4 Janvier 1999) au Worcester Centrum à Worcester, Massachusetts, Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson affrontent Kane dans un « 2-On-1 Handicap Street Fight Match ». Shane McMahon est arbitre du combat et annonce que le combat est un « Handicap Match ». Kane sèche Briscoe et Patterson tente de l’acheter, sans succès. Gerald frappe Kane par derrière pour se prendre un « Uppercut ». Kane ajoute un « Chokeslam » à Gerald. Patterson lui offre de s’assoir mais Kane lui porte aussi un « Chokeslam ». Il tire ensuite les jambes de Gerald entre le poteau puis porte une « Descente du coude » sur l’entre jambe de Patterson. Alors que Shane commentait au micro, Kane l’attrape à la gorge. Vince lui demande d’aller en arrière-scène. Kane lâche sa prise et Vince le déclare vainqueur.

Le 12 Janvier 1999, lors des enregistrements de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 295 » (diffusé le 18 Janvier 1999) au Beaumont, Texas, Chyna affronte Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson dans un « 2-On-1 Handicap Street Fight Match ». Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson arrivent et argumentent qui des 2 va commencer. C’est finalement Brisco qui débute. Plus tard, lors que Chyna tente de s’en prendre à Gerald, Patterson lui porte un « Low Blow » lol. Chyna les attrape tous les 2 par les couilles. Brisco et Patterson s’engueulent et Chyna s’assoie sur les cordes. Patterson la bouscule vers l’extérieur. Là, Sable rejoint le ring mais se fait attaquer par Luna qui la frappe avec la ceinture WWF Women’s avant de fuir. Pat remonte Chyna sur le ring et Brisco lui porte un « Corporate Elbow » pour le compte de 2 quand Patterson casse le tombé, voulant le réaliser lui-même. Pat la couvre mais Gerald casse le tombé. Les 2 en viennent aux mains. Chyna leur cogne la tête mutuellement puis frappe Patterson au visage dans le coin. Gerald l’aveugle avec une poudre. Les 2 lui touchent les seins. Chyna esquive une « Double Clothesline » pour en porter une elle-même et frappe les 2 à terre. Elle porte un « DDT » à chacun des Stooges puis met Brisco sur Patterson et s’assoie dessus pour la victoire !

Le 15 Mars 1999, lors de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 303 » au San Jose Arena à San Jose, Californie, le champion WWF European, Shane McMahon affronte Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson dans un « 2-On-1 Handicap Non Title Match ». Vince McMahon est aux commentaires. A un moment donné, McMahon porte une « Clothesline » à Brisco dans le coin et l’y frappe avant de porter un « Bronco Buster » aux 2. Alors que les 2 Stooges reviennent, Shane porte un « Low Blow » sur Patterson et un « Dropkick » sur Gerald. Shane frappe ensuite les 2 avec sa ceinture et les couvre tous les 2 pour la victoire.

Le 3 Mai 1999, lors de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 310 » au San Diego Sports Arena à San Diego, Californie, Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson battent The Mean Street Posse (Pete Gas et Rodney). A un moment donné, Patterson fouette Pete avec sa ceinture puis, l’envoi dans les escaliers alors que Brisco vire Rodney hors du ring puis lui frappe la tête contre la table des commentateurs. Pat passe Pete par-dessus la barrière de sécurité alors que Brisco frappe la tête de Pete contre le poteau. Les Stooges sont déclarés vainqueurs… Le 8 Mai 1999, à la World Wrestling Entertainment, Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson battent The Mean Street Posse (Pete Gas et Rodney) dans un « House Show » au Tampa, Floride.

Le 10 Mai 1999, lors de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 311 » à l’O-Rena à Orlando, Floride, Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson affrontent The Mean Street Posse (Pete Gas et Rodney) dans un « Losers Leave WWF Match ». Les Stooges arrivent sur la musique d’Hulk Hogan et agissent comme ce dernier sur la plateforme. The Mean Street Posse les attaquent avant leur arrivée sur le ring et prennent l’avantage. A un moment donné, alors que Pete va le fouetter avec sa ceinture, Patterson remonte sur le ring et le frappe avec le casque de policier. Les Stooges envoient les 2 se percuter et Gerald enchaine avec une « Souplesse » sur Pete alors que Patterson dégage Rodney par-dessus la 3ème corde. Pat applique un « Boston Crab » à Rodney et Brisco un « Figure Four » à Pete pour la victoire ! The Mean Street Posse doit quitter la WWF ! Après le combat, Pat imite Hogan lol.

Le 8 Juin 1999, lors des enregistrements de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 316 » (diffusé le 14 Juin 1999) au Worcester Centrum à Worcester, Massachusetts, Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson affrontent Mideon et Viscera. Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson arrivent sous la musique d’Hulk Hogan, « Real American » et prennent des chaises. Avant le début du combat, Pete et Rodney Gas s’attaquent à Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson. Mideon et Viscera les rejoignent. Mideon porte un « Neckbreaker » à Gerald et Viscera 2 « Big Splashs » sur Patterson puis 2 autres sur Brisco.

Le 21 Juin 1999, lors de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 317 » au The Pyramid à Memphis, Tennessee, Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson affrontent Shane McMahon et Vince McMahon. A un moment donné, alors qu’il est dominé, Patterson revient pour frapper Vince au visage mais ce dernier lui porte un « Low Blow ». Là, Ken Shamrock arrive pour confronter Vince mais Shane s’en mêle. Ken lui porte un « Belly To Belly Suplex » et cour après Vince qui fuit. Les Mean Street Posse viennent s’attaquer au Stooges et un 3ème, Joey Abs, arrive en renfort. Il met une chaise entre la cheville de Pat et la frappe à terre. Joey en fait de même pour Gerald.

Le 6 Septembre 1999, lors de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 328 » au Hartford Civic Center à Hartford, Connecticut, Gerald Brisco, Pat Patterson et Test, affrontent The Mean Street Posse (Joey Abs, Pete Gas et Rodney), accompagnés de Terri Runnels dans un « Six Man Tag-Team Match ». Terri rejoint la table des commentateurs. Les Stooges arrivent sous l’ancienne musique d’Hulk Hogan et imitent bêtement ce dernier. Les Mean Street Posse attaquent les légendes à l’extérieur et les montent sur le ring. Test arrive peu après en renfort des Stooges et sèche Pete d’un « Big Boot » et porte un « Gutwrentch Powerbomb » à Abs avant de porter une « Clothesline » à Rodney. Test vire Pete puis Joey du ring avant de porter un « Powerbomb » à Rodney ! Alors que ce dernier quitte le ring, Shawn Stasiak accoure et le remonte sur le ring ou Test porte un « Running Powerslam » à Rodney. Test monte sur la 3ème corde pour un « Diving Elbow » de la victoire !

Le 14 Décembre 1999, lors des enregistrements télé de « WWF SmackDown #18 » (diffusé le 16 Décembre 1999), à la Florida State University à Tallahassee, Floride, les champions WWF World Tag-Team, The New Age Outlaws (Mr. Ass et The Road Dogg) battent Gerald Brisco et Pat Patterson dans un « No Disqualification Match ». Les New Age Outlaws remportent la victoire quand Billy Gunn porte son « Fameasser » sur Brisco.

Le 8 Mai 2000, lors de l’émission « WWF Raw Is War # 363 » au Nassau Coliseum à Uniondale, New York, Rikishi Phatu bat Pat Patterson, The Road Dogg et X-Pac dans un « 3-On-1 Handicap Match ». Le 12 Juin 2000, la « Faction » McMahon-Helmsley a pris brièvement le contrôle de Kane après l'avoir démasqués, permettant à Patterson de photographier son visage « affreusement balafré ». Ils ont menacés de « l’exposer au monde » si Kane n’obtempère pas. Ce dernier a été forcé de battre The Rock (et ses alliés) dans un « No Holds Barred Match ». Cependant, le film photographique ne se développe pas correctement et Kane s’en soit pris à la « Faction ».

Pat Patterson est devenu le plus vieux champion de WWF Hardcore le 19 Juin 2000 après avoir aveuglé le champion en titre, Gerald Brisco, avec du champagne et après lui avoir cassé une deuxième bouteille sur la tête.

Le 25 Juin 2000, lors du PPV WWF King Of The Ring 2000 au Fleet Center à Boston, Massachusetts, le champion WWF Hardcore, Pat Patterson défend sa ceinture face à Gerald Brisco dans un « Evening Gown Match ». Ce combat est « Booké » par Vince McMahon après que Patterson et Brisco se soient bagarrés dans le vestiaire des femmes. Durant le combat, Crash Holly fait le tombé sur Pat Patterson pour remporter la ceinture après l’avoir frappé à la tête avec une poubelle…

Le championnat WWF Intercontinental est unifié avec le championnat World Heavyweight le 20 Octobre 2002 avant d’être ressuscité le 18 mai 2003 au PPV WWF Judgment Day » dans une « Battle Royal ». Pat Patterson, an tant que le premier champion WWF Intercontinental de l’histoire est au bord du ring pour présenter la ceinture au vainqueur. Booker T a éliminé Christian pour la victoire, mais l'arbitre est inconscient. Quand Patterson a tenté de donner la ceinture à Booker T, Christian l'a attaqué, a pris la ceinture et l'a utilisé pour assommer Booker T. L'arbitre a alors récupéré et donné la victoire à Christian.

En Octobre 2004, Pat Patterson a pris sa retraite de la World Wrestling Entertainment sur fond d'accusations d’harcèlement homosexuel d'employés. Un de ses derniers actes a été un rapport pour la WWE qui affirme que trop de temps était consacré à Triple H, le beau-frère de Vince McMahon. Pat Patterson est retourné à la WWE à temps partiel en mai 2005. Bien qu’il soit maintenant à la retraite en tant que producteur pour la WWE, il agit toujours comme consultant créatif.

Lors du PPV WWE Breaking Point, Pat Patterson a fait une apparition dans sa ville natale de Montréal dans un segment sur le ring avec Dolph Ziggler.

Le 10 Avril 2012, Pat Patterson a fait une apparition lors du WWE SmackDown! : Blast From The Past.

Le 27 mai 2013, Patterson a été un invité surprise pour le « Bret Hart Appreciation Night » à Calgary, Alberta, Canada qui était un spectacle après Raw diffusé dans le monde entier sur le WWE App et partout au Canada sur The Score.

Patterson a été un participant régulier le show de téléréalité « Legends' House » diffusé sur le WWE Network.

La vie personnelle :

Pat Patterson est ouvertement gay. Il a d'abord fait son « Coming Out » au début des années 1970, mais sa sexualité n’a pas été reconnue publiquement ou lors de scénarios WWE jusqu'à la finale de la saison de WWE Legends' House, qui a été diffusée le 12 Juin 2014.

Son compagnon de longue date est Louis Dondero. Pat Patterson a déclaré lors de WWE House Legends qu'ils étaient ensemble depuis 40 ans et que Dondero est mort d'une crise cardiaque.

En Août 2006, Pat Patterson a subi une chirurgie cardiaque d'urgence. En Octobre, Pat Patterson a récupéré de son opération et a été libéré de l'hôpital.

Pat Patterson est catholique et a été un enfant de chœur. Il a exprimé l’intérêt d’être prêtre et d’en devenir un lui-même mais on l’a informé qu'il ne pourrait le devenir parce qu'il était « trop aventureux ».

Patterson est le parrain de Stephanie McMahon.

Décès :

Patt Patterson est décédé d'un cancer dans un hôpital de Miami, en Floride, le 2 décembre 2020. Il avait 79 ans.
